IFPI preaches ISPs' censorship in Australia
What do the Australian ARIA Awards have to do with IFPI? John Kennedy, IFPI’s chairman and CEO visited Australia for the ceremony and used a chance to convey the idea of word wide censorship to the local population.
The Sydney Morning Herald cites the main points of Mr. Kennedy’s message about ultimate control of users. "What we hope is our next step is to engage ISPs in performing a role in dealing with piracy online… If ISPs refuse to co-operate, Mr Kennedy said he would take his requests up to Australian politicians. "We're saying to governments: If the ISPs aren't willing to do this on a voluntary basis, isn't this something you're prepared to regulate? … Mr Kennedy admits that the measures he has taking are "draconian", but said it was the only way to convince users to obtain their music legally."
However, does he talk about forcing people to buy music legally or does it all mean forcing people to buy music for an artificially high cartel price? Is freedom a price high enough for the labels' well-being?

Plutocracy: government by the rich and powerful. "A weapon in that struggle [between democracy and plutocracy] is the Court system, more often than not used to greatest effect by the plutocracy." Peripetia blog

Effectively, ALLOFMP3 would never exist if Music industry stopped its "artificially high cartel prices". That's true. Music indutry is wrong and does not lower its prices nor does they in any way improve their poor on-line offer.
Also ALLOFMP3 is the "Noah's ark" that preserve cultural diversity when music industry let millions of past song in ruins.

Having providers block access to AllofMp3 is a violation of our human rights as consumers - the great thing about the internet is we can choose where to purchase our music. The industry don't like it because you have taken power away from them and their artificially inflated prices (£14.99 for a cd!!!) and put it back in the hands of the people who matter - THE LISTENERS !!

Allofmp3 is great - but they don't pay the songwriters and artists.
So how long could it all last if everyone did the same?

I had no trouble the other day with Visa-and Click and Buy. It does work if you go through the process.

re Muso. I had this discussion with a group called Tiddas in Australia back in the days of illegal taping. Someone gave me a tape of their work and from that I bought more of their albums and went to see them many times in concert. They did ok out of me. The point is I would probably have never bought anything of theirs if a friend didn't give me an "illegal" tape. Don't allow the argument to be so narrow, the music world wont fall apart from downloading, it will fall apart drom the greed of the exploiters who sign up musicians. It is time to think more openly about getting music out their using the technology available today rather than stick with the old system. I know Peter Gabriel has money to do things but have a look at his site for someone who has embraced the change.

Actually, it's the IFPI's idea that the artists don't get anything. AllofMP3 released a detailed explanation of the issue. It's all in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Regarding The Legality of the AllOfMP3 pay service

Funny how he did not say they should get ISPs to block porn sites so people don't go blind, gambling sites so they do get in to debit.

Oh my Lord - you actually liked Tiddas? Oh but wait - Kangaroo Island is a little isolated, all those Ligurian bees and Eucalyptus Oil must have gone to your head.

Stan - you are not alone with Visa problems. I got so jack of it I applied for a mastercard. I was able to do it a few times by getting gift certificates but even that oddly stopped working. It used to work quite well when this site went through a different paysite some years ago (cant recall name now) but yeah I'm hearin' ya pal, bloody annoying. Still, not annoying enough to make you enter an actual music store and pay $30 for a cd cover designed by some people with marketing degrees at BMG I'm sure.

a Pom who has recently moved to Oz...using my UK Visa card through Click and Buy...they sent me a verification form to fill in and send back. A bit of a pain but it works if you stick with it. Delayed my happy downloading by a week or so, but let's face it, it has to be worth the wait and the effort. Keep smiling.

Cameron, yeah after seeing them a couple of times (Tiddas) I decided to move to KI so I didn't have to anymore. I hope you had your tongue in your cheek. All the Ligurian honey and eucalyptus oil must have cleared my head because I was able to figure out how to use this site (with a Visa) without having to apply for a Mastercard.

Yes quite, there was some poetic license with the chronology, however my mastercard does work and I haven't tried the Visa for a while coz it didn't work last time. And really I was just proud I remembered the name of the bees they have there - only uncorrupted species left on Earth if I'm not mistaken. Still this is probably getting a touch off topic. I still keep coming back to this site all the time - it is so comprehensive and well maintained, and still cheap (although it double overnight at one point I'm sure - I remember putting $5 US on and it buying 500mb!) It is also full of surprisingly obscure music to fulfill whatever post-rock obsession I might have at any given moment. Good show ruskies!
