Microsoft to start selling DRM-free music from EMI too

Microsoft has hinted last week that it plans to start selling DRM-free music from EMI and others.

"We've been saying for a while that we are aware that consumers want to have unprotected content," said marketing director for the Microsoft MP3 player Jason Reindorp.

The company sees the EMI’s decision to offer unprotected music as an opportunity to gain a bigger market share as "It potentially makes the competition more on a device-to-device or service-to-service basis. It will force the various services to really innovate." Microsoft hasn’t yet given any exact dates when DRM-free tracks will be available from its store.

Gee, ain't it amazing! look at why they want to sell non DRM music.

Who says it's not all about money? If it were not for the money MS would not be doing it. Think about their DRM programs (OS, Office). Why don't they open up?? As we all know and they have inferred, they want a little of everything!

But what about when a Zune user is lucky enough to have found another Zune user to "squirt" on, er, with? I'm sure that MS's DRM will be all over EMI non-DRMd tracks then.

MS is just bout the worst offender in the DRM world, and even with DRM-free music, they will squirt their own DRM all over it.

At $1.29 USD per song, I have to say Thanks, but No Thanks. That is too high of a price to pay for DRM-free music.

AllOfMP3 has the best pricing and I'm willing to pay for music from them all day long. Why don't the record companies take notice?

Answer: Greed.

Of course it's about making money, Microsoft are a business concern like most other companies! It's a good thing that other major distributers are coming around to DRM free music.

This is great!! Now, it is possible for music lovers to access their favorites without the requisite jumping through hoops to get their music, and then, possibly not getting it after all the "Hoop-la"
At my age, I have huge volumes of music that I want to listen to, and now, I can do so!! Thank you for this opportunity!! Jim e
