Report 301: US copyright unprotected around the world
The office of the US Trade Representative has issued a new report on the current situation with protection of US intellectual property by other countries. According to the document, 43 counties protect it inadequately and ineffectively. Among them 12 countries have qualified for a "priority watch list" of the worst offenders. China and Russia are on top of the shame list. The accusations and demands towards the countries guilty of neglecting US trade interests include:
China
China has “…severe market-access restrictions threaten the growth and vitality of exciting new [US] online and mobile delivery platforms for recorded music.”
Russia
Russia have failed to shut down AllofMP3.com and “if Russia fails to meet its obligations, the United States should respond accordingly and unilaterally impose sanctions on Russian exports to the United States.”
Canada
Canada did not qualify for the priority watch list this year but remains among the top offenders good for “lower level monitoring lists”. As RIAA puts it “For too long, Canada’s laws and enforcement practices have been out of step with international standards and have threatened the vitality of Canada’s creative sector.” IIPA simply calls Canadian laws “outmoded”.
Some in Canada criticize the report as “a biased analysis of Canadian law supported by a well-orchestrated lobby effort.” Michael Geist writes in his blog: “In fact, the U.S. claims fail to recognize that the current Canadian legal framework is successfully supporting a rapidly developing digital marketplace featuring digital download music sales that grew by 122 per cent last year (nearly double the U.S. rate) with twice as many online music sellers as the U.S. when measured on a per capita basis... Since the mid-1990s, the USTR has placed intellectual property protection at the very top of its priority list. As a result, dozens of countries have entered into trade agreements with the U.S. in which they undertake to implement U.S.-style intellectual property protections”
*
The USTR claims that the current grave situation with so many countries neglecting the protection of US intellectual property threatens the ability of “music community … to create and innovate, bringing original content to audiences around the world”. What’s more important US industries are loosing “billions of dollars”.

The arrogance of the report is outstanding. Who ever made America the policeman for the privileges of its corporate raiders? The American companies themselves are no more than Pirates of the worst kind - ones supported by an unthinking self interested government. Thieves, thieves, tramps and thieves and these are them.

Yes as a US citizen I can tell you this is a very oppressive government..BUT I have faith in the masses here. They are
good people that have felt powerless because its leaders do not
listen to them, and have become imperialistic and greedy..The above
article is proof of their general bad attidude towards the world community and why they are no longer respected at home or around the world..I am a simple guy I just want to listen to some tunes at a affordable price and be left alone...but even something so simple has
become ,so hard..what ever happened to "The right to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness" which was written in our bill of rights by our very enlightened forfathers....let us all pray for patience and change in the near future..

This is why Americans are some of allofmp3's best customers. These cockroaches are infuriated that they can't charge us $18 for a piece of plastic anymore. I'm all for supporting the artists but if you want to support the artists go and seem them in CONCERT, buy their merchandise, go to their websites, etc. It looks like there's a temper tantrum going on in the record companies across America because the execs weren't able to buy that third house and that 2nd yacht. I really hope their is a special place in hell for these guys.
4. by Besty, the Flying Cow, 4 May 2007, 17:26
Hear hear! This has nothing to do with protecting the artists: if it did, perhaps Big Music should stop screwing their talent with sneaky contracts that put them deeply in debt before they make any money. This is all about the almighty dollar and the corruption of capitalism by the kind of greedy, white douchebags who've only reached the top by screwing over their friends and selling out their families. As a white, American female, I am ashamed at how polluted our constitution has become. I'm glad Nightfly (see comment above) still has faith in the People...I'm getting used to being the only one screaming, however. Make your voices heard, people! We are the lifeblood of this great gift called America - and we will not be marginalized by anyone. (drops 2 cents)

"...unilaterally impose sanctions on Russian exports to the United States..."???
Are they CRAZY? Just because of a website that sells music at a reduced price?
6. by mr moo, 5 May 2007, 16:11
Well actually. The music is discounted because the artists get nothing for the music sold on AllofMp3 - isn;t that right?
So actually the record labels and the artists are getting screwed by all of MP3.
But until south africa is open to services like itunes and has a decent mp3 download service, this is the only option.
By the way. we pay about $30 in south africa for a CD if its not poppy radio stuff.
7. by Blux, 5 May 2007, 19:32
All that I can see is going to happen is that people are going to use peer to peer software such as Shareaza 2.1 to download free music. I used to use AllOfMP3 because I felt at least I was paying something to an over-inflated market. Oh well what to heck, I guess I'll just have to scrounge off my mates!
8. by Nightfly, 5 May 2007, 20:41
The artists do get paid..As I understand it, the money goes into a general national pool of money..It's just not enough money for these
greedy low life's,there is a different economy in this country and it should be respected..US Government has got to learn to accept other peoples cultures and ways, and not intimidate them into being like them. What ever happened to live and let live..and as Blux said above I felt like I was paying something that I personally could afford rather than using p2p which I do not use.
9. by Sherb, 6 May 2007, 17:33
I want to drive a Mercedes for $1.99...why don't we just stop paying the people who make them and we could all drive hot cars!
Geez, you sound like the type of people who go to a strip club, watch the show but won't tip the strippers, then complaing they're thieves because they want to be paid for being naked!
Frankly, artists have the right to charge whatever they want. If you don't want to pay it, listen to other musicians! Or drive a different car...or don't go to strip clubs.
10. by MoDawg, 6 May 2007, 19:29
For the past 35 yrs., I have paid a small fortune to purchase music-Vinyl,8-Track,Cassets, Cd, Dvd and Digital. I firmly beleive in the artist getting their due but I cannot justify the the costs now for the music you get on an album/Cd. The record companies brought it all on themselves by producing albums that would have 1 and maybe 2 tracks(if you are lucky) that are listenable. I still purchase a great deal, but they are generally classics to replace previously purchased media in outdated formats. I enjoy recording my own musical mixes, been doing it since I got my first reel to reel years ago. I don't want to purchase new music with a "shelf life". I have spent a great deal of time and money to afford myself the opportunity to listen to what I want- when I want. My government seems to be confused, but not I. The music business in the U.S. IS run by money hungry Jews, I'm not a racist- merely a realist. Facts are facts, and RIAA is doing all that it can to substantiate the stereotype. It is my opinion that the artist SHOULD get the lion's share of the profits-not the music labels. I will gladly pay a little more to AoMmp3 if the money could go to the artist. Why pay it to a crippled industry that did not have the foresight to see this coming. Music is art...but only if there is someone to appreciate it.
Sorry for the rambling rant. I'll get off my soap box and grab my guitar on the porch.....I wonder if the Artists have spies in the woods listening to me play their songs?
11. by Mike, 6 May 2007, 22:23
I am a US citizen, and I love Russia! I've been screwed by record companies for years. iTunes is the closest fair thing, but still isn't fair because now I HAVE to buy iPods... but Allofmp3.com has changed that. Fair music, fair price, I can play it on anything.
If I could move to Russia I would... I'm a programmer, and I would love to work for Allofmp3.... I think the problem the RIAA and the US politicians (who the RIAA funds) have with Allofmp3, is that Allofmp3 has done it right! I tell ALL of my friends about allofmp3, and all of them have become faithful customers... just get the credit card thing fixed so that they can buy more music :)
mike
12. by Nightfly, 6 May 2007, 23:11
MoDawg..Even though you are angry does not give you the right for your racist statement about "money hungry Jews", and its just your misguided perception of reality. You watch to much TV and listen to the Wrong people.I was a musician for many years and I dealt very little with Jewish people and when I did they were very kind and forthright ..Everybody is capable of larceny..Greed has no color, ethnicity or nationality..You should check your Heart when you say that you are are a "realist not a racist"..Remember this is a Global site and as a American you have embarrassed me..
13. by Nightfly, 7 May 2007, 00:08
Sherb..Yes you do have a point..Though I would not drive a Mercedes
or go to a Strip Club so these analogies allude me..also as their analogies to .9 to .99 music downloads ..Yes I have paid thousands of dollars over the years on music ..right now I'm broke but still want to contribute in my own way, I realize it's a rationalization but I'm sure you are just not here to browse..let's all be honest..Music is overpriced and we are all looking for a fairer
price..Let's all live and let live.
14. by (Anonymous), 7 May 2007, 02:08
Sherb you must be kidding because if you see the big labels todays profit. It's much higher than in past because they selling music to all type of media in many countries include satelite radio services, online music stores(which are massive), tv, movies. So don't you think they already making enough money. The impact on allofmp3 is because most music lovers(international) start buying music from this site and big music labels don't like this and they want to drop it's(allofmp3) international rights.
15. by (Anonymous), 7 May 2007, 02:48
Hey Mike - you're retarded if you think moving to Russia to get cheap mp3s is a good idea. Maybe the reason Russia doesn't take this site down is it is about the only good PR they get - that and it pisses the US government off.
16. by Rowan1967, 7 May 2007, 02:58
Rock on Allomp3 :) .. LOVE YOU GUYS.
I live in London. Hate the overpriced stuff sold here.
Keep it going. I am one hell of a SATISFIED customer. Like other have mentioned. If they shut shut down the site. I will go Peer to PEER BIG time. Funniest thing, HD DVD encryption broken :) lol .. by kids. I love them. RIAA still dont get the picture, Greedy bastards, They are losing ,, loosing looooosing .. yay ..
17. by APOLLOSTEES, 7 May 2007, 03:22
We've got to read between the lines people. Dont'e belive for a second that the US will actualy block trade with a contry over people getting free or cheap mp3's. Please. Thats what we call a bluff. I'm sorry but the music industry in is not that big a money maker. Now oil maybe...but not mp3's.
18. by Josh, 7 May 2007, 05:52
"...by the kind of greedy, white douchebags who've only reached the top by screwing over their friends and selling out their families..."
It's actually more accurate to describe most of them as greedy Jewish douchebags. The American recording industry is overwhelmingly Jewish-owned, as is everything else in the U.S.
19. by John, 7 May 2007, 08:02
This digital rights crap has got to go.I also love this site. I used to get songs that my kids love without going broke. Is anyone else having problems adding to their balance. I've been blocked for what seems like two months. Problems with the system they say. Are they giving in to our American bullying. Altunes won't work either. Please help.
20. by Sherb, 7 May 2007, 08:08
Josh and MoDawg...spoken like a small-minded, rabid, anti-Semites with conspiracy delusions desperately trying to find an evil villain to justify your pathetic situation...try kicking your dog as well. I hear this makes some people feel better too. Fortunately comments like these demostrate how short-circuited your wiring is.
21. by Sherb, 7 May 2007, 08:12
As for the America-bashing...it's funny how you rip a nation whose "Evil Corporations" through research and development actually CREATED the machine you rely on to spew forth your bile you consider an intelligent opinion. WOW! What have you EVER created? I wonder if you would have given it away to the masses for little or no profit like you expect the music industry to do?
22. by Sherb, 7 May 2007, 08:13
Try moving to a second-rate country so you can buy music at second-rate price...OH...but wait you'd then be making second-rate wages! Isn't this moving right back toward Communism? Free music to the masses! Let keep the Proles dumb, happy and unproductive! WooooooHooooo!
23. by GG, 7 May 2007, 14:36
Sherb, you beat me to it. How the discussion veers from music to "white douchebags" and anti-American sentiment is just too much! Hey, I loved AoM, too, but view it as a good thing that lasts as long as it lasts. It's not exactly the most kosher thing in the world ; )
24. by The Church of Realism, 7 May 2007, 19:03
Last time I was able to add $ to my account was in Feb. If your computer is located in the US, you will not be able to add any more $ to your account. It's over for US customers. I'm figuring out how to spend my last $3.50....lame.
25. by john, 7 May 2007, 19:33
We need to find a way for someone outside the U.S. to add cash to alltune and them sell us the PIN. We can pay safely using PayPal. What do you guys think. P.S. For all those who think we should move to a second rate country so we can buy music at a second rate price think about this....we live in a time of globalization.....capitalism...where everyone thinks a person should have access to almost anything at the lowest price that they can find it. How many people have been put out of work in this country just so we can buy real cheap good from Walmart. Medicine and medical services over the border in Mexico. Thousands go to Mexico for unbelievably cheap Dental care. Cars soon to come from China that are almost half the price of current prices. This is just music that we're being kept from sharing that someone has come up with a fair model of distribution. If anyone knows of another site please blog on that. Thanks
26. by Samson, 7 May 2007, 21:43
Church - just found out the same thing about adding money to my account. Funny - now I will simply go elsewhere for free instead of buying the songs from AoM. Also for all you idiots blaming the Jewish folk - add me to the list of fellow Americans who are ashamed and embarrassed by your stupidity. Thanks for all you have given me AoM!!

This blog convinces me of a number of truisms in the world:
1) Most of you people should not be allowed to procreate . . never mind post your ramblings on a site read by other people.
2) I'm sure AllofMP3.com is paying royalties to the performing artists . . . yea right . . .the artists are the ones getting shafted big time.
3) If you don't like what's happening in America, either work to change it for the better, or just leave - you're part of the problem.
4) If you don't want to pay $20 (US) for a CD - don't. Free market economics will force a change in the system, or force the system to shut down (can you say NO music?).
5) Other than the fact you have to have an Ipod to use Itunes (maybe Apple should just charge $1.50 for a song not uploaded to an Ipod?), it seems to be a pretty well-run site, with an OK selection of songs (still waiting for things to settled between Apple Music and Apple Computers so I can get the Beatles music).
END OF RANT
28. by Andy, 8 May 2007, 00:02
Until the U.S. changes their online gambling laws and complies with the WTO over free trade for online gambling it will have a hard time with these types of issues. How can you expect other countries to comply with these issues if you don't comply with the WTO over a free trade issue?
29. by Jargarn, 8 May 2007, 01:28
Sherb..America right or wrong..does knocking other countries make yours better..and are US citizens who disagree with American policys unpatriotic, and are you the pininacle of intelligence to judge others.
And yes what do these rants have do do with Music and if you don't like aom3 why are you here? To get some get some cheap downloads and check on us commies and alliances..lol...and the anti-sementism is just plain
sad and uncivilized, and yes many artists do give away their art for very little and many and are happy to call them selves artists.Don't speak for those you do not know. And then you will say "do you?" and the answer is yes..Show some tolerance for people who think and persue
their lives differently than you..we all can't be that perfect.
30. by tiredofbeingscrewedbyRIAA, 8 May 2007, 05:13
For too many years I have spent and re-spent money getting the same music as the fomat is distributed on changes. I am fed up with the crap from the RIAA and by the amount of illegal downloading/trading it is obvious others are also sick of paying for the same music 5 or six times. Repurchasing from 45 to LP to 8 track to cassette to CD to DVD audio is a rip off and am fed up with it. Until a more reasonable way to keep the music you have purchased once so you don't need to buy it every time the format changes I will continue to buy from AllofMP3.com. I want to thank them for opening my eyes to musical groups from Europe that the greedy scumbags from RIAA keep out of the US. I cannot believe that they have kept so many great European groups out of the US. Thanks for opening my eyes to better music that is not available in the US. I can only hope that this site is compensating the artists directly. Regardless if this site does or doesn't I will continue to buy my music here. I am fed up with the BS from the RIAA and their sue happy crusade against the electronic downloaders who are fed up with the rip off prices that finance the RIAA bigwigs fancy lifestyles while they themselves screw ther own artists! Rock on AllofMP3.com!
31. by DIEDI, 8 May 2007, 09:51
Of course we are pissed off! AOM is a brilliant website with real choice about how we get our music. It not only has the latest stuff it also has an incredible back catalogue of rare music. Personally the price is not my main concern I would gladly pay more if anyone else actually offered the service that AOM offer!! This should be the lesson the american companies learn! How dare they try to inflict their bully boy tactics on any other country just because someone else is actually doing a better job. If the people on here care to check, AOM puts 15% of all monies collected into a fund for copyright holders and are looking at a percentage for artists as well. The problem is that they are scared to collect, wouldn't want to upset American companies would we!! Those companies that are always ready to threaten but aren't prepared to give us what we the public want!! And if anyone thinks they are fighting for copyright holders rights rather than their own profits, they are in cloud cuckoo land. !!
32. by Anon..., 8 May 2007, 15:35
When was the last time you saw a poor pop star!
keep it up AOMP3!
33. by eremes, 8 May 2007, 15:57
TO: No. 30, No. 31 You are absolutely right. We are an older couple and bought the same music at least 3 times. We must say we are fed up by the music industries constant changing of the formats without any deduction. Even an older couple can change their mind and buy the same and additional music at AOM. Thanks to AOM we had the chance to get the music cheaper instead of spending hours on our PC and change the format. We would also be willing to pay more, if the musician would receive the bigger part and the industry less! We even know some people in the industry. They lost their track a long
way ago (even cheating musicians). Their mistake, their problem!
34. by eremes, 8 May 2007, 16:12
By the way: I also forgot to tell you that many CDs we bought over the last 20 years, do have a problem. CDs have reading problems. The CDs have always been handled properly and never been used outside, so LPs were doing much better. We recommend strongly to copy CDs on external HDD and your PC, otherwise you will loose all the songs soon. Thank you industry!

how in the hell can I fund my acct from the US??!! anyone know anything?!
36. by Broj, 9 May 2007, 02:03
As said above, how can I fund my account from outside the US?! would anyone know how?
Thanks in advance for clews...
With such a catalogue and easy handling, AoM is a super site and should keep on even if the necesary taxes, royalties, etc. would have to be paid and the price for music amended...
Is there a way to show common solidarity?
37. by Nightfly, 9 May 2007, 06:36
Anybody looking for more information and support and sharing of ideas
and information about Allofmp3 go to AOM3.org nice community of users.
38. by erandal, 9 May 2007, 16:43
how they ever think that shutting down one website will stop piracy i will never know. until they start charging reasonable prices for CD's and DVD's and stop ripping us for for download prices long may it continue because there is no way on earth i will ever pay £10 for a CD or DVD! now where did i put that bit-torrent installer...
39. by RLH, 10 May 2007, 05:08
I think the artists are makeing enough already. They need to know what its like to be an American who's getting screwed by the government and not someone who the government is fighting for so they can have more money. Check this out, cheaper than allofmp3 with a down loadable client, www.xxx.com for $25USD I got $31 to spend on songs that all cost $0.09USD no matter what.
40. by stolennomenclature, 11 May 2007, 09:56
Really, who cares what the US wants or thinks. So what if the US record comapnies make less money? So waht if they go bust? Most of the so called music they put out is total crap. If they all went bust it would usher in a utopia of new music sold directly by the artists to the public at reasonable prices. ALLOFMP3 type prices. The record companies dont provide us with good music. They sell sex to idiotic pre-teens with overactive sex glands. If an artist doesnt look either like Tom Cruise or Briney Spears they dont get recorded.
There is nothing of any worth that comes out of these greedy avericious corporates except drivel, disease and vomit. Sod the lot of them.

maybe us companies shozuld start to hire talented managers again instead of wasting the money on lobbying. with excellent products you archive sales, with below average crap you go down the drain :).
there is a reason that innovative good stuff traditionally used to come from europe in its majority.................

>>I want to drive a Mercedes for $1.99...why don't we just stop paying >>the people who make them and we could all drive hot cars!
Yeah, the only difference is that when I pay for a Mercedes, they do not put restrictions on what I can do with the car, I can sell it, give to anybody i want, share it etc. It is __my car__. Now read a music CD license, it amounts to "don't do this, don't do that, don't let anybody listen to it", basically let us (RIAA) screw as much other people as I we want.
The fact is, you cannot justify paying $20 for a piece of plastic that, at the end of the day, you do not even own.
44. by Mands, 13 May 2007, 10:54
Are there any other sites like allofmp3 that are working right now, i cant refill my balance either, I NEED MUSIC!!!!
45. by LoganDavies, 13 May 2007, 11:09
The biggest problem is that the US is scared that all of us will learn the following: Every Music CDR since the AHRA was enacted has a hidden tax built into the price! (2% of the manufacturers sales) This is supposedly to pay the artists for home recording. Who Collects the Tax? The RIAA under the auspices of the AARC. Who shares office space with the RIAA and has many of the RIAA employees working for it. I haven't been able to find one artist that was paid a cent of the money. 4% is set aside for non-featured artists, of the remainder 40% for the featured artist and 60% for the labels. To date I have not found one artist who has received one cent of this money. In addition every CD recorder has a $2.00 surcharge built into the price that goes directly to the RIAA. Source: http://riaa.com/Licensing-AARC-2.cfm
Just my 2 cents. F the RIAA!

Come all you computer hackers, how can we set up a web site in a neutral country that will take our credit cards and issue us a pin code. It can't be that hard. Come on allofmp3 start earning your rubles and get this work around fixed. You have loyal customers and fans rooting for now we need your help. PC
47. by ace, 13 May 2007, 21:52
The US gov't is destroying America. See givemeliberty.org for a list of Constitutional torts. These people will stop at nothing, so trying to shutdown AoM3 with the RIAA is no surprise me. Unless we (Americans) return to a constitutional government, buying cheap MP3s on the internet will be the least of our problems.
48. by Suspicious, 15 May 2007, 09:25
Seven times the same question…"how can I add $$$ to my account…"
Never an answer, not even from AllofMP3, who owns this site, the RIAA??
49. by Nightfly, 15 May 2007, 20:48
Suspicious... Have been reading posts??? You can't add money at this time they are having problems.. presure by the RIAA...and can not help you during this time...If you can not be patient and support them go else where..
It's not always about you, there is a bigger picture here, our rights are being challanged. Please at least think about it for a second.
50. by Chabochi, 16 May 2007, 08:29
Let´s hope some day the music industry complets the change it has been forseen from some time on with the arrival of new technologies such as internet... transforming this emporio of few to be the welth of many.
I have faith that in the end the only thing that will remain will be the good music and not the selfish billioners behind our dreams.
Best regards.

GREED.
Gomez Addams said it best - "See what greed will get you?"
These record guys have made SO much money with their 'old-school' raping of artists and consumers, that when you offer up a new, more effective way to distribute music, they freak OUT! It's like you or me getting rich with a system and someone comes along and undermines it = BY GOD! WE WILL NOT HAVE THAT! That is our cash-cow, dammit!
Let's face facts. The major labels have been ripping music lovers/consumers for so long, it is unfathomable to them to change a thing. So, they grab their 'money-stick' and start swinging. It doesn't matter they use K-TEL records to sell us re-processed CRAP at a maximum price. C;mon, you have MADE your money, no more, senor!
Enough of the butt attack! You have gotten rich, now go AWAY! Let the artist make some money, let consumers FIND and BUY the music they want, NOT what YOU THINK they should be buying because YOU greedy F's make more money.
I am sick of this, it has gone on for YEARS. ENOUGH!
Allofmp3 is the best format for a music lover I have ever seen.
Even if they gave the RIAA 2 or 3 cents per download, I would gladly pay it, to get those pricks OUTTA THE WAY! They not only HOLD US UP at GUNPOINT, but they restrict material that WE, THE CONSUMER, want!
F all this crap. F IT!
RIAA? YOUR TIME IS DONE. OVER. Allof mp3? GO around them, figure out how to get the consumer what they want, supply and demand. Hell, give those greedy bastards a cent or two and everyone will be happy.
What a sad state of affairs, how GREED has permeated something as lovely as music. How about applying this same shit to art, movies, anything of the arts, then to buildings, statues, cars, life in general. Charge the hell out of people to have the RIGHT to see or hear anything.
I just have this to say = GO TO HELL,and TAKE YOUR GREED WITH YOU.
Uncle S. (pissed)

I have always been somewhat disturbed by AllOfMp3's obvious lack of respect for copyright. Saying that they respect artist rights or anyone elses rights for that matter is a sham. Sure AllOfMP3M is a wonderful tool, but don't fool yourselves, when you use it, someone is getting screwed out of there property. That's why I only use it to download Europeen artists. HAHA

It looks like this country became a concentration camp faster then a lightning strike. People are neglected in every imaginable way and yet everybody only prays for patience and for better times.
We pay taxes in redicolous ammounts for every dollar earned, for every purchase made and after we shell out top dollar for the property to live in we still have to pay property tax. To draw a better picture: the small size town of 3-4 hundreed thousand people pays over 150 million dollars per month in taxes and nobody asks what they are paying for. We pay, and we do not even have kindergardens (i will not be surprised if people will stop having kids because nanny costs more then the mortgage), schooll system sucks (dont get me wrong but kids rarely come out smart! Drugs, guns, sex and it all starts in schools which we pay for). Universities charge top dollars for education but forget to provide the job for you! Want to visit a doctor? -- Spread your but cheeks to make some money, because soon you will need to pay that bill!!!
I can go on and on!!!
And Now someone called the song a "property" - and we also pay. May be we should be charged for singing it as well?
The way things are going we will be billed for the air we breath pretty soon.
